CAREER SUMMARY

Bill established an independent commercial arbitration and mediation practice in April 2016.  Before that, Bill was a partner of Lawson Lundell LLP. He was a former member of the executive committee and head of litigation. Bill represented clients at all levels of courts in commercial litigation, complex construction and engineering disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, product liability matters, and insurance, real estate, employment, banking, maritime, mining and securities issues. He represented the Federal Government in a claim for health care costs recovery brought by the Province of B. C. against various tobacco companies and represented the Canadian Pacific Railway Company in the Supreme Court of Canada concerning the effect of statutory authority and applicable guidelines and regulations on a railway’s common duty of care to the public.

As a Bencher and Past President of the Law Society of B.C., he developed the expertise and skills necessary to work effectively in the public interest within a large and complex regulatory body. As Law Society Adjudicator, he has conducted hearings and written reasons for decision in many Law Society Credential and Disciplinary proceedings.
